On Sunday 30 June, three U16 girls joined the Queen Bees (Kweens) SL5 team to get a taste of senior football for the first time.
Maytal, Rachel and Eliana took their first step up to senior football for a 30-minute run in the first half in coach Jackson’s squad against Monash Uni, whom Maccabi lost to 2 – 0 the first time we met.
Coach Jackson said, “They all played well, listened to instructions and have good solid foundations in technique, game awareness and tenacity.”
By half time the Kweens were level at 1 – 1 after having been 1 goal up earlier in the half. Having the U16 girls playing in the first half gave the rest of the team a chance to be fresh for the second half, according to Jackson “They gave the players enough time to rest and allowed me time to change the tactics when needed (which allowed us to score the first goal).”
The Queen Bees ran out 4 -2 winners and showed the importance of having a pathway for junior players to play senior football during the season to experience what it will be like in the coming years.
We look forward to more success stories like this in the games and seasons to come with the help of the whole female football department.
