Maccabi U10 Rockets played in the Oblates Cup tournament on Sunday hosted by Mazenod FC. The competition consisted of 5 teams with each playing each other once with the top 4 making finals.
Our first game got underway with a bang and in no time we were up 3 nil. Our forwards kept the scorekeepers very busy and when the whistle blew we'd won 10-0.
Competition was much harder in game two and our defenders had to work hard but we managed a goal just before half time and another just after to come away with a well earnt 2-0 victory.
The third game also proved a challenge, but we stuck at it and won 3-1. Having beaten the 2 better teams we were guaranteed finals so in game 4 we rested a few of the midfielders as much as we could and our forwards ran riot again. We also gave our Goalie a run out of goals for the first time this season and not only did he dominate but also scored a goal in what was one of the many highlights of the day and we came away with a 7-0 win.
After 4 games without a break we finally got 20 minutes to rest and replenish with some bagels, chocolates and bislis before our semi final.
In no time it was the semi final and despite the tired legs the boys went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. The boys dug deep with our midfielders dominating and we came away with 4-0 win and into the grand final.
The weather then changed and the rain came down and despite the now hard conditions the game was played at a high intensity with both teams really wanting to win. Our Goalie pulled off some magnificent saves, our defenders were impenetrable and we went into halftime with a slim 1-0 lead.
The rain got heavier and the sky got darker quickly threatening to stop the match but nothing was going to stop our boys. Despite some nervous moments our mids and forwards continued their good form for the tournament and we came away with a magnificent 4-1 win and the Oblates Cup trophy.
A truly magnificent effort by the boys and great to bring home some silverware for Maccabi.
