When your team gets beaten 11 – 0 you don’t expect the players to be saying,
“So proud girls. Results aside we are awesome !!”
“Unbelievable effort tonight girls, I can't wait for this season!!”
“Well done girls! We fought till the end! Let’s keep it up and will be a great season”
Or “Great game girls. It was hard but fun !! Everyone should be proud. Season hasn’t even started ! Keep it up”, but that was the upbeat mood in the rooms after the Queen Bees were beaten by a much more experienced Banyule FC side.
To put it into perspective Maccabi FC is an amateur community club and Banyule FC is a semi-professional club with players that aspire to the A League in the next season or two. So its really a David v Goliath story.
With sidelined players, parents and supporters in attendance the atmosphere around the field was high spirited and fully supportive of our senior women. Coach Dimi has built up two wonderful teams of motivated players from scratch since the beginning of 2023 and all credit goes to him for keeping the ladies together and focussed.
Results aside, the experience of playing a first ever senior football game under lights at Caulfield Park was awesome. We thank Glen Eira council, Football Victoria, our new groundsmen and our tireless Maccabi FC workers for making this happen.
The senior women, the Queen Bees, will become the team that all of our junior female players will aspire to over time and looking down the ranks there is a lot of talent to come up the ladder in the coming years.
For now, we look forward to a successful season 2024 for the Queen Bees and wish them all the very best.
Go Maccabi!
